Reflections on the Work of Victor Salmones
Rarely has sculpture captivated so many in so short a time as the works of Victor Salmones. His lustrous bronzes expressing heartfelt human experience have been acquired in some thirty-eight countries throughout the world. From Paris to Palm Beach, New York to Tokyo, Zurich to Rio, Hong Kong to Helsinki, Salmones' sculptures are treasured examples of contemporary art.
Born in Mexico City of Spanish ancestry in 1937, Salmones lived and worked in the seaside resort of Acapulco most of his adult life. The magic of this special place is said to have been reflected in many of Victor's works. Trained under the famous Bauhaus master Hoffman, Salmones worked in the exacting, age-old lost wax method of casting. Thus, each piece possesses the finishing touches of the artist.
In each sculpture, the permanence, solidity, and durability of bronze capture the fragility of a moment in time. Salmones' talent expressed the feelings that people are sometimes at a loss to express with words ...joy, exuberance, tranquility, tenderness, and love. His sculpture speaks universally, to all people, expressing longings and desires, aspirations and dreams, and preserving those singular cherished moments in life. "I do not speak very well, " Victor once said, "...the only way I can explain is with my hands".
