The City of Thomas Jefferson proudly displays the city's flag at City Hall on McCarty Street near Monroe Street. Flags are available for purchase inside.

The site of the Missouri State Capitol was selected by the Missouri State Legislature meeting in St. Charles, Missouri---Missouri's first capital city. It met the criteria of being located on the banks of the Missouri and its central location.

At the flag's center is the current capitol building's dome surrounded by twenty-four stars representing Missouri's entry into the union as the 24th state.

The winner of the 1990 competition to submit a city flag design was local resident David Woodside. He is an attorney for the Missouri Department of Transportation. He is a graduate of the St. Louis University Law School. Though he went to the same law school as the current mayor's wife Peggy, he won the competition fair and square before mayor John Landwehr's term of office.
