Fire Station 17 was opened on July 4, 1996 to provide response to the rapidly developing Northeast section of the city. The station houses an engine company, and the Heavy Rescue vehicle. It also has a wildland firefighting brush truck to deal with the large stretches of undeveloped land in the eastern section of the city. Station 17 is home to the Heavy Rescue program, which provides several rescue services, such as swift water and dive rescue, trench and confined space rescue, surface ice rescue, high-angle rescue, and vehicle extrication.
