There is a sign that tells about early Mormon pioneer coming through here and this was the last big hill before getting into the San Juan Valley. Hence called Salvation Knoll. This cache is on the west side of the knoll and southwest of the balanced rock. Picture if you can, no modern roads of today and only the wilderness. This is the best view to see how the pioneers really traveled through all the rock, trees and scrubs. From the view area you can see to the south is Old Highway 95 on the edge of Fish Creek that has multi Indian mounds and ruins. In the far off distance you can see Grand Gulch, Cedar Mesa, and Monument Valley AZ. To the south is Moss Back. Points of interest is that Southeast Comb Ridge runs from Blue Mountain down past Salvation Knoll and can be seen from outer space
