This monument is in honor of the 74 men who lost their lives aboard the US Navy destroyer Frank E. Evans June 3, 1969 during the Vietnam conflict. Serving in her 3rd conflict, the aging destroyer was on the gun line off the coast of Vietnam when she was moved out of the combat zone for Operation Sea Spirit where she collided with the Australian Aircraft Carrier Melborne. In less than 4 minutes 74 sailors lives were lost. The names of these brave men are not included on the Vietnam memorial wall in Washington DC, but will be displayed here as a tribute to their service to our country.
We dedicate this monument in their memory this 22nd day of September 2006. Seamen Kenneth Glines was the only sailor's remains recovered and is buried here at Mt Washington Forever Cemetery. His tribute can be viewed at www.forevernetwork.com or on one of the cemeteries touch screen consoles.
