The house was built in 1832 by Allen Glover for his daughter, Sarah Serena Glover, and her husband, Francis Strother Lyon. Mr. Lyon was in both the Confederate and the United States Congresses. The Lyons used Bluff Hall as a townhouse, they also resided at Bermuda Hill, their plantation near Arcola. Bluff Hall was one of several homes built atop a limestone cliff overlooking the Tombigbee River, known as White Bluff. It is now owned by the Marengo County Historical Society and social events are held there on occasion.
