Long Description:
Everytime I see this church, I am in awe. It is really tall, for
being in a very rural area of South Louisiana. Really sticks out.
The State Historical Marker states
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church -1770-From which civil
parish was named. The church on second German Coast when Louisiana
was colony of Spain. Served west and east banks of river until
1864. Old cemetery contains grave of wife of Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard
and John Slidell family tomb. I could find NO information on
the church or parish in my search.
