In the late 1800s into the early 1900s, Lakewood was the winter resort of the rich and famous. The train was the way to travel, and trains from New York would arrive every 20 minutes! Well, rail travel quickly took second seat to air travel after WWII. The collosal, guilded hotels of Lakewood are all gone, but since 1947, Lakewood, New Jersey was open to air travel.

On 192 acres adjacent to the Lakewood Industrial Park, the airport is in an ideal location for cargo transport and commuters. Luckily, the airport has had little opposition to operations as Lakewood expands.

I noticed about 20 small planes and two helicopters "parked" by the end of the terminal, but this is the middle of winter, and I believe I have seen many more here at a given time. (I pass this airport going to work everyday). The terminal is nothing more than a mobile office trailer, but it's been serving the area for decades.

There is a charter aviation company that works out of Lakewood Airport, offering commuter, sightseeing and cargo transport. I also know of a pilot here that offers aviation classes.

The runway is asphalt and runs 2,912 feet (888 m). There are warnings on the AirNav site that the runway edge markings are FADED. I was lucky enough to watch a small plane take off while waymarking in the parking lot!
