Long Description:
The flexible flyer was invented in 1889 by Samuel Allen, a Moorestown inventor and businessman who built and lived in “The Castle”, the wonderful stone mansion on Main Street in front of the Lutheran Home. Mr. Allen tested the sled on Stokes Hill, diagonally across the street from The Castle. A definitive book on the Flexible Flyer was written by Joan Palicia, a nurse from Wayne, NJ, who has a collection of hundreds of Flexible Flyers and other memorabilia related to the sled’s history. This winter Carnival is dedicated to sledding and held at Stokes Hill
