The current Madera County Courthouse was originally constructed as a school in 1910. It was converted to its present use in the 1960s. The building has once been condemned and the Madera Tribune ran a story in 2006 regarding the courthouse stating it was the "worst" in the state. A new courthouse has been in the works for years.
