This park includes a stretch of beach and coastal bluff - between the State Park and the oil company pier to the east. The tar pits, which were on the surface thousands of years ago and which are important for scientific excavations, are almost completely covered by dirt and plants. Tar does still ooze to the surface and drip from the bluff onto the beach. Watch where you step, because it will stick to your shoes.
Volunteers have restored the area's vegetation to a mostly native state. There are a few benches with nice views of the ocean, but there are no other park facilities or structures (for restrooms and water fountains, use the nearby State Park facilities). The closest access is by crossing the railroad tracks from a residential neighborhood -- be careful because the tracks are very active !
