The Green Family, consists of a happy family in green clothing, underlining Potsdam's reputation as a family friendly city. It is one of Potsdam's most popular sculptures. It was created in 1982 by local artist Carola Buhlmanns for the opening of Potsdam's pedestrian area and shopping mall Brandenburger Strasse.
The sculpture is made of ceramic which means it is very fragile. It is located in a very busy area, and though locals really love the sculpture, over the years, certain damages where inevitable. As you can see in the picture we took in 2007, the woman was already missing an arm. Our family in Germany told us that the sculpture sustained severe damage during last year's Christmas Fair. |

It will soon be replaced by a copy made by the same artist using the original forms which she fortunately kept.
Until the repair is done, we hope this waymark can serve as a small, virtual replacement.
