Off of the Lincoln Highway in Edison is the location of Thomas Alva Edison's laboratory. It was at this laboratory between 1876-1884, where some of his most famous inventions were created. Some of them were:
- Telephone Mouthpiece
- Incandescent Light Bulb
- Electric Train
- Phonograph
These inventions represent just a few of the over 400 patients that were issued for the work performed at this laboratory. Known as the "Wizard of Menlo Park", Thomas Alva Edison's contributions to society through his inventions forever changed the face of the world.
The memorial, erected in honor of Thomas Alva Edison in 1937, is located on a 36 acre parkland that makes up the Edison State Park. Over time, the seasonal freeze/thaw cycles have taken its toll on the concrete memoral. In 1994, an assessment into the memorial showed that exposed re-enforcing bars and cracked and chipped concrete was superficial and did not affect the structural integrity of the tower. In 2007, fundraising began for the restoration of the tower and an update to the associated museum.
