Ebenezer's History & Future
Looking Back
Established in 1856, Ebenezer was one of the first churches to be in ministry to the Stafford community. The original building was a brick structure built on donated land which is now at the corner of Onville Road and Ebenezer Church Road in Northern Stafford County. For 135 years, the church building remained at this location, surviving damage from the Civil War and ministering to generations of residents in the community. The Church was given the name "Ebenezer" in reference to the Bible passage of 1 Samuel where the army of God's People were victorious in battle. The name "Ebenezer" means "God is our Rock of Help." In 1991, a bold and courageous decision was made to relocate the church and build new facilities on an eight acre parcel of land located next to Embrey Mill Road in Stafford. This beautiful piece of real estate is becoming surrounded by schools, houses, and roads. The decision to move and rebuild reflects the desire to grow and reach out to people in the community.
