Alongside a literal knot of intersecting roads on the south side of the Neponset River, in Milton, near the Boston neighborhood of Mattapan, is a stone mile marker from 1893. The inscription it bears states that it is 7 miles from Boston.
I could not locate much more about this marker at this time.
To see the marker, from Mattapan, travel south on Blue Hill Avenue, continue over the river, bear right, and before you reach the split to the Truman Highway, the marker will be there on the right, a few feet from the road. The marker is in good but worn shape.
