Long Description:
Carville is named for the Carville family, of which democratic
political strategist James Carville is a member. The Post office
once occupied part of ther Carville Store, right next to this
current Post Office, also owned by the Carville Family. The
Carville Family home stood about a half mile north and the
Leprosorium (Now a US Military National Guard location) is about 3
miles north. Leprosorium was named Indian Camp Plantation and later
the Gillis Long National Hansens Disease Center.
