Port Dalhousie the spot where the Welland Canal ended from 1829 to 1932 which connected Lakes Ontario and Erie - bypassing Niagara Falls.
Originally built in 1852, and then rebuilt in 1893 and 1898 after it was destroyed by fire. The outer or - front range light was built in 1879.
In 1932, the entrance to the Welland Canal was moved to it's present day location and the lighthouse's importanced waned.
Automation of the lights took place in 1968 (when I was born), and the rear range light was finally deactivated in 1988.
Currently the Niagara College sailing school occupies the building in summer months
