High Water Mark Flood of Mar 1936 Elev 646.47 ft. U.S. Engineer Office Huntington WVa. Corps. of Engineers U.S. Army

The only reference I found to this particular flood is in this study by E.L. Mosley. Clarington is nearer to Pittsurgh than the communities further downstream, such as Gallipolis, Portsmouth, and Cincinnati that suffered so much devastation in the great flood of 1937, not many months later. A brief quotation is given.

E. L. MOSELEY,
Bowling Green State University
Bowling Green, Ohio

"The great flood of 1936, which at Pittsburgh was even greater than that of 1937, came two months later in the year than that of 1937, as might have been expected from the fact that heavy rain in 1845 started later and continued later."
