Posted coords are for the trailhead and parking. Photo #1 coords are for the end of the trail.
From the trailhead it's 1.6 miles over moderate mostly level terrain to get to the scenic overlook. Trail is well maintained with just some mud patches here and there. You'll hike through open grassy fields, through dense canopy forest full of mature decidious trees, and then finally a Rhododendron forest. A very interesting mix! The Rhododendron forest is quite an experience walking under and through them.
Trail is marked hikers only but we saw several mountain bike tracks so be sure to be on the lookout for them.
End of the trail has rock seating, perfect for a picnic! Be sure to Leave No Trace of your visit! Also keep track of your young ones, the last 150 foot of trail goes over a rock outcropping. Keep kids close.
Trailhead and parking are a little difficult to find, even with maps. To get there by road directions, From Fayetteville, the trailhead is off of Gatewood Road. From US RT.19 follow RT.16 South thru Fayetteville. Left turn on Gatewood Road where a sign reads Kaymoore and Cunard. Follow Gatewood Road for 1.9 miles, and turn left. There is a lareg parking area on the left after a few hundred yards. Trail sign and info can be found here.
