The gardens were created by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr, a noted landscape architect. The labyrinth of lush gardens, tranquil ponds, shady nooks and local plants are outstanding, and can be enjoyed for hours.
There are many places to watch the birds, as there are many small ponds around the tower. But...the BEST place to watch the birds is at the Window on the Pond, a tinted glass viewing room by a pond, where the spectators cannot be seen, and the wildlife puts on a show.
The little hut sits next to a pond, and one wall is a one-way mirror. There are benches for the spectators to sit and watch from, and plenty of room in front for tripods. The sanctuary "baits" the pond with seed. You never know who is going to visit. They can't see you inside, so it's natural beauty.
We sat there for almost two hours. We saw ducks, red wing blackbirds, herons, cranes and more. I was looking for an alligator, but no luck this time.
