This is the entrance to St. Michael's Academy in midtown Manhatten. Since my office is right across the street, I've noticed the entrances for quite a while. Even though the boys entrance is no longer active, the vestige is still there.

From their web site:
Saint Michael Academy is an all-girls high school located on Manhattan’s west side. For over 125 years, Saint Michael Academy has been providing quality, affordable education for the children of New York City. Founded by the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary as an elementary school in 1874, the school opened a high school in the 1920s, which became an all-girls facility in 1947. It is now a Middle States Accredited school serving young women in grades nine through twelve.
At Saint Michael’s, young women from all five boroughs and New Jersey receive the education they need to succeed, and the support and encouragement they need to achieve their dreams. With a student-faculty ratio of 16 to 1, Saint Michael’s offers small classes and teachers committed to preparing students for the future.
