The Great Pyramid of Crisfield (MD) - Time Capsules on Waymarking.com

In 1976, the Crisfield, Maryland, Bi-Centenial commission decided to create a 100 year time capsule, as did many other communities in the USA. The capsule was designed as a pyramid, on the theory that the ones in Egypt had lasted a long time, so it follows that this one would, too. Included in the capsule were hundreds of trinkets and doodads from local people, as well as photos of President Gerald Ford, Prime Minister Trudeau, and Queen Elizabeth, to name but a few. Local scenes are painted on the interior walls. After a huge amount of effort ("Don't ever try to build a pyramid," the chairman of the commission opined, "nothing is square, nothing is plumb..."), the pyramid was sealed on July 4, 1996 (not really - the committee still accepted submissions through the end of the year, but that's what the plaque says).

The plan is to open the pyramid on July 4, 2076, the artifacts distributed, and the pyramid resealed for another hundred years.
