The solid stone memorial holds firmly in the foreground of a flatiron park, which holds the remains of a previous veterans memorial that was constructed and deteriorated a long time ago.
The original was in the middle of wilderness. This memorial is planted amidst the busy shopping mecca that Murdock had become during the park's rest.
The northbound/southbound busy roadway next to this park was renamed from Toledo Blade Boulevard to Cochran Boulevard in honour of the same marine being honoured with this memorial.
The top portion of the memorial reads:
Top: Dedicated to the memory of P.F.C. Robert L. Cochran
U.S.M.C. killed in action on the Island of Saipan,
1943 and to all combat wounded veterans
The front bears the medal emblem of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and is accompanied by the words...
My stone is red for the blood they shed. The medal I bear is my country's way to show they care. If I could be seen by all mankind maybe peace will come in my lifetime.
The lower portion of the memorial bears the following text:
Erected by Chapter #759 Military Order of the Purple Heart & Veterans Organizations of Florida.
The base of the memorial displays the shields of each U.S. Military Branch.
