This chimney is located in Maramec Spring Park, a private park in southern Missouri. At one time this area was a large iron ore mining and smelting area. This home belonged to a man who worked on the property.

From a nearby sign: "Samuel Hyer and his wife, the former Elizabeth Mitchell, lived on this site. They had eight children, three sons and five daughters. Samuel was a leading iron worker at Maramec. The Hyers' daughter, Martha, became one of the earliest teachers at the Works. She later married John Brazil Harrison, the son of James Berry Harrison and Lovisa Voss Duncan, who came to Phelps County in 1818. This is a typical hewed log cabin and the first of this type of cabin used by the ironworkers built on Stringtown Road."

Although this chimney is in a private park, I highly recommend a visit. The entrance fee was only a few dollars per car and well worth the admission price. The park contains a history/natural history museum, agricultural museum, trout hatchery, old iron furnace, fishing stream and Maramec Springs, a Registered Natural Landmark and the 5th largest spring in Missouri with over 100 million gallons of water flowing daily from the spring.
