The mural, “Developing Minds and Bodies”, on Cooper Street, depicts the many special people who have contributed to the betterment of our community through their volunteer work at the Cooper Street Recreation Center. Many lives have been positively impacted because of the volunteers work, including the opportunity to attend college, resulting from the after school tutoring received at the center.

Cooper Street Recreation Center is an amazing story of self help that started with the teenagers who did odd jobs to purchase an old U.S. Army Air Force barrack from the airfield. The building was where some of our fighter pilots received training during WWII.

It has become a treasured community function that has continued to receive support to this day.. Not so much for the building itself, but for all the good it has brought to the community. The Cooper Street Recreation Center has many important functions, including inspiring good work and academic habits in our young.
