In the heart of dense woodland you will find Montclair Castle. The very castle from which knights disappointed by unrequited love would throw themselves into the deep.

Nowadays it's hard to believe that in the ancient days the mound was the location of one the region's biggest and most fortified castles which was said to be impregnable. This castle was the scene of battles and sieges; it became a plaything in the hands of rivalling lords fighting for the domination of the region.
Being strategically well-situated on a long stretched ridge surrounded by the river Saar, the place was used already by the Celts for the building of a stronghold. Later on, the customs revenue of the Saar trade made the place very attractive. There is hardly any other castle in our region around which so many myths and legends have grown up.
There were six aristocratic families that controlled Montclair Castle before it lost its supremacy and before the construction of New Montclair Castle opened a new chapter in its book of history. After that, the castle lay deserted and in ruins for a long time, until it was carefully renovated. It now has become a beautifully situated sightseeing destination, where today you can still get some glimpses of times gone by.
