The original clockwork, over a century old, is still turning the hands on the faces on the four sides of the tower. The clockwork is protected by a large wooden box that helps keep out the dirt, dust, and water that leak in various ways.
In the 1940s, a small electric motor replaced the original pendulum system. Before that, the county had a contract with a man who wound the clock every week. Some minor repairs to the clock and tower were performed in the early 1980's, and he clock was reconditioned in 1998.
