This Santa Fe caboose was built in 1949 and was originally numbered as 2300. The caboose was rebuilt in 1976 and renumbered as 999625. This is one of forty Class Ce-3 caboose's made for Santa Fe. A detailed history of this class of caboose can be found here.

Most members of this caboose class were rebuilt for local and transfer caboose service. The yellow painted cupola on 999625 denotes that this caboose was intended for local service.
