7. A BOYS AND GIRLS LIBRARY (open 2-6 Mon.-Fri.; 9-12, 2-6 Sat.), 5810 8th Ave., is housed in a grey stone Gothic Revival building, originally constructed in 1907 as a Unitarian church. In April, 1929, the church was dedicated for use as the only separate boys' and girls' library in the State. Still retaining much of the mellow beauty of a church interior, the library has small children's tables and chairs, diminutive exhibits, and low book cases. This is one of the five branches of the Gilbert M. Simmons Library.
---Wisconsin, A Guide to the Badger State, 1941

Today the outside of the church looks much as it did in 1940, but today it once again serves as a Unitarian Church.

The Church's web site gives a lot more details of the history of the building.
