Sculpture is of a young girl with hair in braids. She has her left hand on her chest and her right hand is holding up her skirt so she does not walk on it. She is standing on a decorative stone base.
Sign reads:
"A gift from the city of Galway, Ireland
to
sister city of Chicago

August 2007
sculptor: Maurice Harron"

Per the sculptor's website: (visit link)

"The sculpture ‘Grainne’ is conceived as the daughter of a chieftain. She stands on an ornate base, derived from the 2000 year-old Turoe Stone of County Galway ... She stands, the daughter of a noble chieftain, making a gesture with her left hand to her throat."

The park this sculpture is located in is across the street from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church which was founded by Irish immigrants. The park is a fenced in grass area with landscaping around the edges and this sculpture in the main entrance on the corner. The park is mainly visited by pet owners and their leash dogs.
