It is thought to have been constructed in the 4th and 6th centuries BC when Iron Age tribes occupied the site. There are Longbarrows on the site dating to 3000 BC also. There are large earthworks still visible today with sheep grazing and beautiful views.

In about 150 AD the camp was burnt down remaining empty until the Romans settled there with an un-fortified camp. The earthworks are over 8 feet deep and up to 15 feet high with an area of 6 acres. It has two entrances on the east and west side.

The site is a scheduled, ancient monument so please treat it with respect.
