Station 9 was opened February 14, 1968, to meet the needs of the growing northwest area of Colorado Springs. The basement of Station 9 contained a Civil Defense emergency operations center which incorporated living facilities (kitchen, bathroom, and bunks) and emergency equipment generator, water storage, and communications gear.
An aerial truck was added in 1974 making it a double company station. The Hazardous Materials Response Team resided at Station 9 from 1983 to 1998, when it was moved to Station 6. The Heavy Rescue program was also at Station 9 from its inception in 1998 until 2006, when it was moved to Station 17.
Currently, Station 9 houses Engine 9, Truck 9, and Wildland 9.
