The trail is what remains of an original portion of the road. Braddock died nearby in 1755. He was buried in the middle of the road. The wagons and horses were driven over his grave to hide it from the Indians. What are thought to be his remains were discovered in 1804 by a workman making repairs to the road. His remains were then moved to his current grave site, just up the hill. A young George Washington was also in the party and officiated the funeral, being the only officer still fit for duty. Later this route became part of the National Pike and Route 40. See nearby waymarks for additional information.
