This land was donated to the city in 1890 by Phillip Dieffenwierth. It was originally called Town Park and was part of City Hall. After City Hall was moved to its current location on Highlands Avenue, the mayor tried to sell this entire property including the park. After six months of protests from longtime residents and the descendants of the Ulmer family, they agreed on keeping 3/4 of an acre and keeping the name Ulmer Park.
