When it opened, the Duke Indoor Stadium was the largest arena south of Philadelphia. Newspaper reporters were awed by its spacious interior. Now it is among the country's smallest venues for college basketball, seating just 9,314 spectators.
In 1972, the stadium was renamed in honor of Eddie Cameron, Duke Basketball Coach from 1929 to 1942.
The stadium underwent a remodel in the 1980's which widened the concourses and made other improvements, like a new scoreboard. Still, the actual stadium inside is almost exactly the same as it was in 1940.
Duke officials have no plans to replace venerable Cameron Indoor Stadium with a larger facility.
