The Blarcom Mansion at 1 Westmoreland Place was built in 1894. The Neo-Classical styled mansion was designed by architect William Albert Swasey for banker Jacob Craig Van Blarcom. Mr Van Blarcom came to St. Louis and worked as a salesman for the Peterson, Hawthorn and Company, a wholesale house for saddlery, hardware and leather. He then secured a position a position in the Bank of Commerce, working his way up to President of the bank.
