Rushed into service during Korean War. Many initial production problems. Continuously upgraded through 7 models. Used by over 19 nations. Equipped with ballistic computer. Many improvements over the M46 including wider tracks, quick change gun barrel, optical rangefinder, improved armor. Major fault was gas engine which gave abysmal range. The hull is cast and boat shaped.
