Long Description:This is the faomous Heavener Runestone in Northeast Oklahoma. It
was found by a local Indian hunting party around the 1830's.
Vikings traveled to America from Greenland long before
Christopher Columbus discovered it. They came from Greenland across
the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.
From there they sailed up the Mississippi River then they made
their way to Oklahoma around the Poteau and Heavener areas as well
as Shawnee. These are the 3 areas where the runestones were found.
The biggest runestone is in Heavener, where it was found. The other
two are in the Kerr Museum in Oklahoma.
