The HAWK (for Homing All the Way Killer) missile was the first mobile medium-range guided surface-to-air system deployed by the U.S. Army, entering service with the U.S. Army in August 1959 and the U.S. Marine Corps in 1960. Phased out by 2003, it is still in use by some foreign nations.
The HAWK used several radars for control and guidance, including a pulse acquisition radar for high and medium-level threats, a continuous wave acquisition radar for low-level threats, a high-power illuminator to designate targets for the missile's seeker, and a range-only radar in case other radars were jammed by countermeasures.
This HAWK system is in the markings of the U.S. Army's 68th Defense Artillary, which defended southern Florida from air attack in the 1960's
