The church was extensively restored in 1870,when the church was also enlarged by the design of Austin and Paley.
One of the most outstanding treasures of the church is the East window, which has been described as one of the most important and extensive ensembles of medieval glazing, most of which is 15th century but some is of 13th century, the glass came from Cartmel Priory,it is suggested that one of the coats of arms is of the Washington family, ancestors of the first president of the USA.
