This parking area is the main trailhead for the South Unit trails of Bald Mountain. The outside Red Loop is 4.8 miles. Features some steep hills overlooking several small ponds. Mostly wooded with some open fields. Many natural springs can be found by exploring just off the trail, especially near the bridge that crosses Spring Creek. Can be very muddy in spring and after heavy rain.
Parking at trailhead. State park permit required for vehicles, available one mile east at the park HQ:

Exit 81 on I-75 to M-24/Lapeer Rd. North about three miles to Greenshield (look for signs indicating shooting range or park headquarters). East on Greenshield about 1/2 mile. See headquarters for maps and vehicle registration (N 42° 44.601' W 083° 13.111').
