The Steinhart Aquarium in the California Academy of Sciences has both diverse and informative displays. Photography is prohibited at many of the displays to protect the exotic species in the aquarium.
Areas of interest include a Phillipine Coral Reef, the Northern California Coast, Water Planet, Flooded Amazon, African Penguins and The Swamp (featuring an unusual albino alligator).
The Steinhart home page states:

Come nose-to-beak with an African penguin, watch sharks and stingrays cruise beneath your feet, check out the set of teeth on a piranha, and learn about the critical, life-sustaining role that water plays on Earth."
