This waymark is special as I learned more about the biking trail I was enjoying. There are several geocaches hidden along its length. I decided to take pictures of the flag pole and plaque to look up the information later - before I knew there was a waymarking category.
Now I have learned this trail was constructed in rememberance of a young Bristol city police office who was killed while responding to a domestic dispute. A deeper appreciation is now held for the trail.
The text on the plaque at the flagpole reads: "Officer Mark Edward Vance Memorial Trail - A dedicated and committed officer who gave his life in the line of service serving the community he loved. November 27, 2004"
Parking is at the Mill Creek access point (Waymark WM59NA). Cross Steele Creek Dr/Broad St. and the truss bridge to get to the flag memorial. The trail continues along the creek to intersect with Shelby Street.
