This beach stretches along the length of the causeway that shelters the lagoon from the open water of the strait. There is a wealth of driftwood along the beach and you never know what might wash up on the shore. The beach is covered with fairly fine sand and there are almost no rocks along it's length. It stretches for about a mile from one end to another along the causeway that connects one side of Colwood with another.
There are parking spots all along it's length and plenty of areas to have a picnic if you want. The city has installed garbage cans along the road side to help keep it clean. At night there is a great view of the city across the bay and some of the towns across the strait. Swimming is not usually something you see too often here unless it's summertime. Outside of a couple of months in the summer the water is generally too cold.
There are no washroom facilities in the area. Dogs are allowed on the beach and you often see people walking their dogs along or tossing sticks for them in the water. Some portions have been roped off to help preserve the dunes habitat.
The beach is accessed via Lagoon Drive off of either Metchosin Rd or Sooke Highway.
