Rank and organization: First Sergeant, Troop 1, 3d U.S. Cavalry. Place and date: At Rosebud River, Mont., 17 June 1876. Entered service at: ------. Birth: Philadelphia, Pa. Date of issue: 1 June 1880. Citation: Gallantry in action.
The Battle of the Rosebud is significant as it stopped one of the columns that was converging towards the large Native American village on the Little Big Horn River and it contributed to Lt. Col. Custer's defeat 9 days later.
