These two stacks once belched the fumes from coal burning to power the Lowell Manufacturing Company, pioneers in the making of skateboards.
At one time most of Lowell's mills were hydro-powered through a vast system of canals. The entire downtown area has been designated a National Park and many of these old mills have been restored and put to new uses. This old coal shed, however has been allowed to continue to deteriorate.
