With the growth of the French Canadian population in Southbridge at the beginning of the twentieth century the need for a second French parish was seen in Southbridge. The Sacred Heart (L'Eglise Du Sacre-Coeur) parish was founded in 1908 to address this need. The parish had a church, rectory, school and convent built. The current Sacred Heart church was built in 1928 replacing an earlier church. The stone church was built in Neo-Gothic style. The church remains an active parish.
