The statue on granite base is of Robert Burns (1759-1796), the national poet of Scotland, and was created by W. Grant Stevenson in 1906.

There were 4 bronze plaques, sadly now gone. Inscriptions under these plaques reads:

From scene's like these Old Scotia's grandeur springs.

In fair virtue's heavenly road, the cottage leaves the palace far behind.
