The Baptist Church Spire is a slender slate shingle covered structure that is situated where several streets converge before meeting Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square.
The church is located in the the small oddly-shaped block bordered by Franklin, Green, Magazine and River Streets. It is a large, brick structure with a spire on the northeast side of the structure. The description on the Geocaching/benchmark site further describes the mark:
AT THE EASTERLY CORNER OF THE CHURCH, THERE IS A TALL SQUARE RED BRICK TOWER WITH AN OPEN BELFRY AT THE TOP. THIS TOWER IS SURMOUNTED WITH A TALL, OCTAGONAL, GRAY SLATE SHINGLED SPIRE. THERE ARE NARROW HORIZONTAL BANDS OF RED SLATE MIXED WITH THE GRAY. ALL OF THE VERTICAL CORNERS OF THE SPIRE ARE METAL SHEATHED AND PAINTED GREEN. THE TOP 15 FEET OF THE SPIRE HAS ORNAMENTAL WORK OF GREEN COPPER. THE POINT OBSERVED ON WAS THE FINIAL AT THE APEX OF THE SPIRE, FROM WHICH ISSUES A TALL ROD CARRYING A WIND-VANE AND CARDINAL POINTS.
Sans the wind vane, the structure is as described.
I believe that the church is still owned by the Baptist Church since there is a sign in the front. There are other signs around it, though, which make it not so clear.
