Back in the day when this part of Detroit was still Hamtramck Township, my family had their farm here. The spot I am taking you is right along side of Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The land that is encompassed by 6 Mile Road to Greiner and then from Hoover to and including part of the cemetery was my Great Grandfathers farm. My Grandfather was born in a house that still stands on Teppert and Greiner. Then as he hit adulthood he built his home on the edge of the farm land which is today Runyon and 6 Mile Road. He lived here on this land his entire life. My father was born in the home my Grandfather built, that makes it 3 generations living on this land that was once a farm 100 years ago.
Once the area was divided up and city homes built through out the area this street was named. Gietzen Street runs from Beland (to the west) to Strasburg east of Hoover on Detroit's eastside.
